Legal and Institutional Status
Its initials mean Archivos de Arquitectura Contemporánea Argentina or Archives of Contemporary Architecture of Argentina. ARCA is a non-profit organization run by authors, heirs and custodians of architectural collections.
ARCA is a member of REDAR (Network of Argentina Architectural Archives), of ICAM (International Confederation of Architectural Museums) and of ICASAR, (Architectural Section of the World Archival Council, Seville 2000).
Objectives
The main objective of ARCA is to preserve, arrange and give due value to architectural collections for their analysis by students, graduates, teachers, historians and the general community as well as to awaken general interest through publications, lectures, etc.
Collections
The following architectural collections have been entrusted to ARCA:
• Alejandro Bustillo
• Follett
• Eduardo Biraben & Lacalle Alonso
• Hirsz Rotzait
• Casado Sastre y Armesto.
All collections come from private architectural firms of Argentina. Once arranged each collection is made available for research and consultation.
Working Space
Since 1998 and during a period of four years ARCA was housed by the School of Architecture (Universidad de Buenos Aires), an institution that provided a specially conditioned 120 m2 space for the conservation and arrangement of the architectural collections. In 2002 and in search of academic autonomy, ARCA left the school of Architecture. Nowadays contacts with differente public and private institutions are being made in order to find a new space where the above named collections can be made available to everybody.
ARCA is financially supported by a group of members who have an annual general meeting.
